The people of the Bunbong community are natives of the Komba tribe, a group of people from the Northern Region of Ghana with communities scattered throughout this region. It is a large tribe that covers a vast area of land with a long history and rich cultural traditions.
However these parts of Ghana are among the least developed in the country in terms of education, health care, economic infrastructure and social well-being. The general area has suffered neglect from the central government leading to a lack of development and inadequate infrastructure within the communities. The Komba tribe has one of the lowest literacy rates in the country. These harsh conditions naturally create poverty, disease and conflict.
Yet the Komba people remain optimistic and are hopeful for the future. Initiating public projects such as libraries is one step towards educating the people and creating opportunities in the community.
